In Sri Lanka, despite the country wide significant improvements in the health situation, the nutrition situations remains worrisome, particularly among disadvantaged population groups. Natural or man made disasters add an additional risk to the already precarious situation.

The Nutrition Coordination Committee (NCC) was established in early 2005 with the aim to coordinate the Tsunami emergency response. The NCC provides a forum of all partners involved in emergency nutrition and consist of National Authorities, International and National and Local Organizations as well as UN Organizations. The NCC enhanced its scope and performs as “Nutrition Sector Coordination” on all aspects of emergency nutrition in Sri Lanka. It aims to ensure an optimal preparedness and a more predictable, effective and timely response to the nutritional needs in emergency affected areas.
